Radio Transcript - "Ned Kelly" Review with Antonia Kidman
In Entertainment (Australia)
Transcribed by Em
...And while Heath Ledger is the topic of conversation for a lot of women, his Ned Kelly co-star, Orlando Bloom, had 'In Entertainment's' phone lines ringing off the hook. With the question "Where was he at the premiere?" So here he is, our special 'In Guy' for this week.
(Whilst showing Orlando's helicopter scene) He's the man that always seems to be at the centre of a battle. In Black Hack Down he went behind enemy lines.
OB: "Todd Blackburn, Private First Class, he's one of the youngest of the rangers. Um, he wasn't in fact, he he'd been to R.I.P, he'd done all the training, he was part of the battalion and he was really there to further his training."
(Whilst showing many clips of Legolas in action)As an elf in Lord of the Rings he's saving the world from the forces of darkness.
OB: "He's a warrior, essentially, and that's basically my, my role in the fellowship, you know"
(Whilst showing Joe and Aaron waiting for Ned) And in Ned Kelly he has a love affair with plenty of women.
(Clip from Ned Kelly) OB: "If anyone to convince an old man to share his daughter with three larrikins like us, it'll be Aaron."
(Whilst showing behind the scene clips of the Ned Kelly making) But Orlando Bloom is an actor both Hollywood and audiences are just starting to have a love affair with. Although a stage favourite in London, it wasn't until Peter Jackson cast him as Legolas the Blonde Elf-Warrior with super human strength that the buzz around him started to grow.
(Clip from the making of TTT) "What business does an elf..."
"...this is Gimli son of Gloin, and Legolas of the Woodland realm"
After shooting all three Rings films, shot simultaneously over 18 months in New Zealand, Orlando headed straight to Morocco to star in Ridley Scott's acclaimed action war drama, Black Hawk Down (Clip from BHD).
(Clips from Ned Kelly) Currently appearing on scene as the young Joe Byrne in Ned Kelly, Orlando admits he was in the dark when it came to the Australian legend but the themes to the story were ones with which he could identify.
(Clips from Ned Kelly and Orlando Interview) OB: "Comminatory, loyalty, um friendship and standing up for what you believe in, are all things that, you know, an audience can relate to."
And Heath was someone who quickly won him over.
OB: "I'd met Heath once in L.A. and um, he's a really sweet guy, he's just a cool guy. And he's totally taking Ned and made him his own."
(Clips from all his movies plus Brad Pitt and Eric Bana) ... And it seems Orlando's star just keeps on growing. Up next he stars opposite Brad Pitt and Eric Bana as Prince Paris in the epic Troy, and with his classical good looks, smouldering brown eyes and unrelenting smile who better to don a toga than Orlando.
