FAN OF THE MOMENT #8: Colleen

Unlike others, I can say why I shouldn't be a fan of the moment and it is because other people are almost as deserving as me, but the key word is almost. Maybe if someone went around stalking him or something, that may be a different story!

The first time I saw a picture of Orlando Bloom was the opening night of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I was there with my younger sister and mom. Some Goth girl in front of me pointed out a huge cardboard poster for The Fellowship of the Ring. My sister and I started to look at it and we saw Legolas and debated whether he was a girl or a boy (I said he was a boy). My father made me see FOTR during X-mas vacation later that year and I loved it! When I got home, I called my best friend who really wanted to see the movie and told her all about it. I remember mentioning "the blond guy" especially. I was obsessed with him from then on. I didn't know the name of his character because I had never read the books and worse, I didn't know the name of the actor who played him!

I went to Borders and bought The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings and read them and reread them until the summer when the movie came to video. I bought it and watched the credits and saw the name Orlando Bloom and laughed because I thought it was a funny name. Then I realized that he portrayed that elf that I was so obsessed with! I was excited that I finally found his name and went online to do searches on him and read about him and find pictures. I influenced all my friends' crushes on him and know nearly everything that is possible to find out about him without knowing him for many years. I watched The Two Towers eight times in theaters and once in a Marriott Hotel. I also watch Black Hawk Down every time it is on TV (I have digital cable and a lot of movie channels) and frequently go on to Orlando fansites.

At my school, they have this thing called Twin Day and you and a friend have to dress alike. My friend Rachael and I both love Orlando, so we had her Uncle make us t-shirts with his face on them. My sister and I went to Hot Topic to get Legolas shirts. For my birthday, I want to see Pirates of the Caribbean because it starts playing a week before my birthday which is July 16. I entered the contest to win Orlando's costume 50 times through the mail and three times online under different email accounts. Sadly, I don't think I won! :( Not like I thought I would! Orlando has inspired me to be an actress and that is the best thing that has come from my crush (the worst part is I want to be an elf but that isn't possible!). I tried out to be in Oliver, which was the play my school did and I got the part of Mr. Bumble! This summer I am going to be in a play of The Wizard of Oz and next year I will be in a school play of Grease.

I am not the kind of person who would ever send fan mail to anyone, so I don't think Orlando will ever hear from me, at least not in the near future. I would be afraid that he wouldn't read it and if he did I would be embarrassed. My crush on him is more like a crush you would have on someone in your school and not a celebrity. I admire how he became an actor. He started out as a nobody, got a part as a pointy-eared elf and woke up a somebody, and unlike other young actors, deserved it because he has TALENT! Something the stars of today are greatly lacking. Being the hottest man alive was just a bonus.
