Let's Just Call It the Seaposted on July 28, 2003
From
New York Newsday: It seems that Disney's latest flick, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," is causing a bit of stress. But it has nothing to do with the film's stars, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. Specifically, there is stress over which syllable to stress ... Anyone who grew up within driving distance of Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., knows that the film takes its name from the rollicking boat ride at the amusement park called "Pirates of the Carib-BE-an." But there are those, perhaps under the influence of the cruise-line industry, who insist on calling it "Pirates of the Ca-RIB-bean." Does it really matter? ... "It's not that we're insisting - that's just the way we're saying it," a Disney spokesman said. And considering how much booty the film has made off with - $133 million in less than two weeks, according to the Hollywood Reporter - you might as well call it "Pirates of the Endless Sequels."

Latest word on "The Calcim Kid"posted on July 26, 2003
From
IAfrica Entertainment: I leave you with the news that knee-weakness-inducing Orlando Bloom is not especially thrilled at his next film. With the highly successful "Pirates of the Caribbean" (with Johnny Depp) doing great things at the box office and ‘Troy’ (with Brad Pitt) sure to be a massive hit — he's clearly headed for the A-list. But his upcoming flick "The Calcium Kid" is not exactly his bag. "A mate asked me to do it and I couldn't say no," says Bloom — who'll be co-starring in the movie opposite singer Billie Piper. In the film Bloom plays a milk delivery man cum boxer, who lands up fighting the world boxing champ. Orlando's comment on the whole thing: "I rate every movie I do as a unique experience." Now there's diplomacy for you!

Vicki writes: The "Pirates of the Caribbean" soundtrack came out July 22nd. The music is so beautiful. For all of those people who have seen the movie enough times to know what scene is playing while listening to the music, it's a good way to tide you over until the DVD comes out. So, just in case you're interested, it's out!

Site re-opening and explanationposted on July 24, 2003
If you were a regular visitor of OBC, you may have noticed that on July 1st, the site literally disappeared. The site has been gone since then, and during this long period of time, I definitely panicked. The short explanation is: the site's webhost/server went insane. I couldn't log into my own account to give you all a message, though I did post little notes in the
forum. I tried to re-start my account using one of the "suggestions" from the webhost, which took weeks. In the end (about one week ago), still nothing was happening and the "guaranteed customer service" I desperately needed was never there. Fortunately, my mother took pity on me and allowed me to purchace a brand-new webhosting deal. And here we are.
In the 20+ days of waiting, I did several things: I re-designed the site itself. I organized the existing content, and added more content in general. I drank a lot of coffee. I ran laps around my neighborhood and cursed at my webhost. And I went to see "Pirates of the Caribbean." The point is, I didn't give up on the website. I've been worried that people would think that I'm a terrible person for just deleting the site because I was too busy, losing interest in Orlando (never!), etc. I just want you to know that I care very deeply for OBC and for you. Give me a hug.
Since I'm rambling on anyway, I would like to thank the following people for their help and kindness: Wes, Katie, and the
forum buddies. Wes has given OBC a new home, and I'm eternally grateful.
Katie gave words of encouragement and was a graphical consultant. Thanks guys.
Changes to the site: "The Blooms" has been modified to
"The Bloomatics". I think the original name was giving out the wrong idea. The
E-Pals is now automated - now you don't have to wait for me to manually put up your information. The
fanfiction section has been cleaned up, and new fanfiction stories will be posted via the
fanfiction forums. Most sections have been updated with minor changes.
News and updates will occur as usual - OBC is back in business! If you see anything missing, if you have news or updates,
email me. And yes, I will refrain from speaking in first person when I update.
Update: The
desktop wallpapers have now been uploaded - enjoy!
