Orlando Bloom: The young James Bond!
posted on July 27, 2004

From RTE.ie: Orlando Bloom will play a young James Bond in a new film about the secret agent's college days, according to reports. The Evening Standard yesterday said that the British actor has signed up with Miramax to star in the film. It is to focus on Bond's college days after he gets expelled from Eton. Bloom recently appeared on Irish screens in 'Troy' and is currently working on Cameron Crowe's 'Elizabethtown' with Kirsten Dunst and Susan Sarandon.

From Female First: Orlando Bloom is to play the new James Bond. However, the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' heartthrob will not be replacing Pierce Brosnan as 007 - instead he will star in a movie about the suave spy' s younger days. A source at Hollywood studios Miramax, who are making the film, revealed: "The story that Orlando will play Bond is true but we are doing a rather novel film about the young James Bond. "The author, Ian Fleming, never really got into this period of his character 's life, but he did mention in 'You Only Live Twice' that Bond attended Fettes College, having been expelled from Eton. Charlie Higson, who is writing the screenplay, has woven a wonderful tale around this." Miramax believe Orlando - who was recently tipped to take over from Pierce Brosnan in the regular Bond films - will be perfect for the role. The source told Britain's Sunday Telegraph newspaper: "Orlando's got the sort of face that makes him look believable for that whole period in Bond's life." The movie is also set to show Bond's notorious womanising started at a young age. The insider added: "There will be a lot of that sort of thing."

Important Note: Please remember that until there is an official confirmation from the movie studio, everything you read about the James Bond issue is a rumor, and nothing has been confirmed.

Orlando Bloom Attracts Attention in Kentucky
posted on July 16, 2004

From various news sources, including ABC News: Some central Kentucky residents got a taste of Hollywood when director Cameron Crowe filmed scenes in Versailles for his latest movie, "Elizabethtown." But Crowe didn't attract as much attention as Orlando Bloom, the movie's male lead. Girls lined up on Main Street Thursday to shout, "We love you, Orlando!" to the 27-year-old actor, who was behind the wheel of a gray Mercury sedan that went up and down the street for multiple takes. Bloom's films include "The Lord of the Rings" movies and "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." "Wow, this is unbelievable!" said 9-year-old Emily Frangedakis, who joined her sister, Eleni, 11, in serenading Bloom.

The "Bloom Burger"
posted on July 12, 2004

From Suzanne: I was in the food court at The Broadway shopping centre in Sydney, and was getting a burger from Burger Bun. All their burgers are named after awards, like The Oscar, The Emmy, the Logie, etc. They had burger specials on display - "Guest star" burgers they called them and the first was the "Eric Bana Burger"! Basically, it's an Aussie works burger - bacon, egg, cheese, oninon, lettuce, tomato, beetroot, BBQ sauce. Cost 6.90. They also had an "Orlando Bloom" burger and a "Rose Byrne" burger. :-)

Latest word on "Pirates" sequels
posted on July 9, 2004

From Digital Spy: The main stars from Pirates of the Carribean have yet to sign up for the movie's two sequels. Both Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp are keen to reprise their roles but have yet to sign on the dotted line because negotiations over their pay are still ongoing. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told MRIB: "We're currently negotiating with the actors to all come back. They all want to come back - it just all comes down to making deals with their agents. They all want raises, which they deserve, it's just how much of a raise." He added that he was confident that the sequels would be a success with the same director and writing team back on board. "We've got the same writers that wrote 'Pirates' and they're going to come back and write two and three. They've outlined two and three, they're writing two and we have a deal with Gore Verbinski, who directed the first one, to do two and three."
